Can't wait to join the competition? You can participate in the following categories.

1)

Field

The battery section of a marching band consists of mainly snares, complemented by bass drums, multi-tenors, and marching cymbals. They are the hardest working, most featured section of the band and are often the flashiest as well. When the military band enters the stadium, they often march at the back or in the middle, and play a short piece of music featuring the drum line, known as the “Cadence” or “Street-Beat”. The drum captain starts the cadence with a signal yell or phrase and keeps the beat for the drum line during the show by yelling to the beat of the drum major during rests. Sometimes, they will challenge other drum lines to a "Drum battle", where both sides will fight it out with their techniques and creativity, until one side runs out of idea and is declared the loser.

2)

Fusion

From classy Jazz to groovy Latin, from the mighty Africa to the flavourful Asia; fusion is basically different genre thrown into a blender, and served as a tasty treat for all who listens. There are no boundaries as to what can fall under this category. Whether you are a player of the scintillating Samba style, or an ardent follower of Ethnic music, it is always interesting to see what sort of mix can be offered for all to stand up and groove away. The modern percussionist, however do not concentrate only on the auditory aspect, but the visual extravaganza that can be brought out from the music as well. Do not restrain yourself as to imagine what Fusion can be.

3)

Alternative

Alternative percussion is the work of creativity. In this category, conventional percussion instruments are not allowed. Participants are to use all sort of things that they can find in their daily life as their instruments. Examples would be metal can, plastic bag and trash bin. In this section, performers will be combining their creativity and strong musical sense to create a percussion piece with originality and full of their personalities.

4)

Concert

Participants would be playing percussion ensemble pieces which revolve mainly around mallet instruments. It would be required of them to have a central melody played by a xylophone, a marimba, vibraphone, chimes or bells. There would not be an restrictions on the genre of music they play and teams of minimum 5 members would be required. Instruments allowed would be all percussion instruments that can be found in symphonic bands and Chinese orchestras.
